2018 Vernaccia

Vernaccia Nera
This unique, sweet sparkling red wine is a celebration of tradition and local character. Vernaccia means “indigenous to,” while Nera translates to “black,” referencing the native black grape of Italy’s Le Marche region. A rare and aromatic wine, it beautifully balances sweetness with lively effervescence.

The floral sweetness of Vernaccia may lead you to believe that the grapes were left on the vine until late in the fall before harvesting. In fact, our Black Vernaccia grapes are typically harvested in October when they are still quite bitter. Half of the harvest is soft pressed immediately, and the other half is carefully hung to dry, cluster by cluster, for one month. The drying process brings out the natural sugars, giving our Vernaccia wine its rich sweetness. We think you’ll appreciate one of our most unique wines created by one of our most cherished Le Marche winemaking traditions.
